What events are happening this summer?
Over the course of this spring and throughout the summer, we’ll be mixing in some untapped indie music, 18 Untapped music and sampling events, The Eddies (known as The Oscar Night of Beers), and a bevy of Alberta’s most precious natural resource - Big Rock beer.
What are the Eddies?
The Big Rock Eddies is an Oscars-style gala celebration of everything Big Rock started in 1994 when Ed McNally, founder of Big Rock Brewery, had the innovative idea to have Big Rock fans make commercials for his local, independently brewed beer. Who better to spread the word about his beer than those who drink it! Guests dress in outrageous outfits from the Flintstones to Hollywood Glam while food and drink keep everyone energized throughout the night.
This year the Eddies are located in three major cities, Toronto, Edmonton & Calgary.
Eastern Regional Qualifier:
May 14th Toronto - Hugh's Room - tickets are available here
Western Regional Qualifier:

What are Big Rock Caps?
In our world, The Friends of Big Rock trades on caps as its currency. Our exchange – it's simple – the more activity, enthusiasm, support and insight you can provide us, the more we provide our appreciation in caps. Big Rock Caps at various intervals can be used to purchase things, get extra chances, donate to charity and determine our VIP ambassadors. It’s hopefully not the only reason you’ll participate, but we think it makes things more interesting.
What is Big Rock?
Big Rock Brewery – headquartered in Calgary, Alberta – produces premium, all-natural craft beers. As Canada’s leading craft brewer, Big Rock boasts a family of ten exceptional ales and lagers, Rock Creek dry apple cider, as well as an ongoing selection of seasonal beers. Big Rock products are sold in eight provinces and three territories in Canada, and oddly enough, are also available in Korea.
When was Big Rock Brewery founded?
Big Rock Brewery was founded in 1984 by Chairman Ed McNally. Big Rock commenced operations in 1985. The first three beers Big Rock produced were Traditional Ale, Bitter and Porter. All were full flavored natural unpasteurized beers. The original Brewery was an existing building on Barlow Trail in SE Calgary. The new brewery was completed and opened in 1996. The Brewery as of 2005 celebrated 20 years of distribution and production in quality craft beers.
Who’s this McNally character?
Founder Ed McNally, is a native Albertan who, as a young boy growing up in Lethbridge, has been exposed to the legacy of the Sick’s Brewery, Sick’s Brewery brewed Rainier and Pilsner in Lethbridge, Alberta. It was a boyhood dream of Ed’s to be involved in brewing. He had seen the success of the Sick’s Brewery and had marvelled at the perceived simplicity: brew beer and sell beer. Ed, a former lawyer, rancher and farmer, foresaw that Canada needed a brewery that would provide consumers with “real” beer. To Ed, a “real” beer had to be brewed according to European tradition, containing no additives, no preservatives or no pasteurization. His formula for success is a combination of excellent people, superior quality and world-class beer.
