A look at how new cooking appliances have changed the art of cooking

Cooking is an art, and like any other art, there are some people who are more gifted in cooking than others.

This is something that I have found to be very hard to understand and accept. Arts such as painting, playing a musical instrument, or singing I can understand when there are differences in the quality of skill in an individual. But I have always found it difficult to understand the fact that two people with the same recipe, same cooking appliances, same methods of cooking and same ingredients will still come out with different tasting food. Maybe it is the timing during the cooking process that is different or maybe the heat that is used, I don’t know, but I have come to accept that we cannot be equal in cooking.

However, with the new technologies that are being invented and the new kitchen appliances that are being introduced, I think that the gap between the cooking of different people is slowly being reduced. With the new inventions, the skill of the cook is not paramount to the quality of the food that will be cooked.

The new appliances that are being used are so automated that the cook is usually but a mere spectator whose work is to put in the ingredients and switch on the appliance. The appliance will cook the food in the exact way that it has been preset to work. For example, if you are cooking rice in any of the popular electric rice cookers of today, all you have to do is put in the rice and the water, set the timer – if it is not already set, and wait.

The rice cooker will cook the rice and it will automatically regulate the steam within the cooker. You do not have to regularly check on the cooking to release excessive steam. When the rice is cooked, the electric rice cooker will automatically stop the cooking and keep the rice warm until when it is served.

This is the same thing that happens in an electric pressure cooker. The electric cooker, unlike the traditional pressure cooker is not heated by a direct source of heat. It is instead heated by an inbuilt electric heating mechanism. This in built system is responsible for heating the food to the exact temperature as preset by the user. This electric pressure cookers have the advantage of maintain exact temperatures while cooking. They also automatically control the flow of steam from the cooker. Electric pressure cookers are safer than traditional pressure cookers since one cannot open the lid if there is too much pressure within the cooker that could cause injury.

As it is evident from the explanations above, it therefore becomes almost impossible to overcook, undercook, or burn food while correctly using any modern kitchen appliances. One does not have to take much time to learn how to cook a particular type of food if they have these new gadgets and a manual.

Therefore, the issue of one person being a better cook than the other person will disappear since food cooked in the new kitchen appliances usually has uniform results
